The Callaways: Book 1 And 2 Reviews

Thank you for joining me for The Callaway Series. In case you missed it, you can find the introduction and giveaway post here. I have also included the giveaway again below.

The next three days I will be sharing my reviews for this series. I hope you enjoy my reviews as much as I enjoyed reading about the Callaways. Today, you can read my reviews for books one and two. Come back tomorrow for three and four.

On a Night Like This (Callaways, #1)So This Is Love by Barbara Freethy

Book 1 – On a Night Like This

Sara never understood why her father had always seemed to despise her. Even so, she comes back home and again tries to bond with him, leading to disastrous results. While there, she reconnects with her best friend Emma, along with Emma’s brother Aiden, whom Sara has history with. Aiden recently lost his best friend and is going through a rough patch too. Before they know it, Sara and Aiden are drawing on each other’s strengths that takes their relationship to what neither is ready for.

Past love reconnects are always more interesting than new ones. I loved getting to know these characters deep down.  I’m going to enjoy reading more on this big family. They actually are like the one house on the block that everyone enjoys going to. Having two older brothers, six kids total, my childhood home was that house.

Book 2 – So This Is Love

Being a fire investigator, Emma Callaway occasionally has to work on a case with SFPD Inspector Max Harrison. Their mutual attraction is unmistakable, but they strive to stay professional. While investigating the latest string of fires, the attraction becomes too much to deny. As things begin to escalate between Emma and Max, the arsonist targets Emma. With the case almost solved, Emma discovers just how much her childhood has to do with the fires.

I enjoyed meeting the Callaways in the first book, but this one drew me in even more. I did my best trying to figure out who the arsonist was, and thought I knew, but never guessed the right one. I loved Emma and Max’s courtship, if you could call it that. My favorite part though was the brotherly powwow, watching them take care of their sister. It was very refreshing to have a stepfamily that acted like a true family.
